T&M Cranes shares roundup on industry trends and news

At T&M Cranes, we’ve recently seen that technology is playing a major role in helping companies adapt to COVID-19. Other companies are using technology to potentially change and improve the field altogether. Here's what you need to know about exciting updates in the industry:

The SC&RA Crane & Rigging Workshop goes virtual

The Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) is an important trade organization that brings together more than 1,400 members from nearly 50 countries around the world.

Every year, hundreds of professionals attend the SC&RA Crane & Rigging Workshop. This annual event shares the latest developments in the industry, offers educational and networking opportunities, and much more. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, organizers announced that the conference will take place in a virtual format this year.

This year’s event will also feature the largest offering of educational opportunities ever. Representatives stated that the new format will allow them to hold almost all of the same activities that attendees have come to expect, such as training sessions and educational forums.

Younger workers are joining the trades

For quite some time, the construction industry and related trades have lacked a younger workforce. This is because most millennials and younger generations have focused on white collar professions.

In light of COVID-19, nearly all industries are relying more on tech, which has attracted a younger workforce to the trades. According to AC&T Magazine, the construction industry is starting to leverage technology a lot more, especially for recruiting. While the industry previously relied on old-fashioned methods for recruiting, you’ll now find many construction recruiters on LinkedIn and social media, which is where younger people are.

According to the article, younger people are also attracted to the fact that construction and transportation are considered to be essential during the pandemic. This is causing many to switch career paths, especially since some of the training can currently be done online.

Technology is being developed for autonomous cranes

Automation has already revolutionized some industries, and now, this exciting technology may change how cranes are operated in the future. Recently, an Israel-based company called Intsite announced an investment of $1.35 million to fund the development of autonomous crane technology.

The company aims to boost safety and productivity by developing a camera-aided computer platform that can improve a crane’s precision by 30%. Other technologies that are in development will allow cranes to be controlled remotely from anywhere in the world via the internet.
